I found these cams I picked up years ago...

...while looking for something else. I am intrigued why they are MFI. They are stamped as Elgin 304 288, but the date stamp on the cams '68 makes them earlier than MFI? Also, the casting number appear to be from different years.

Elgin stamps

Dates

The box confirms

Can someone explain why these were 69 billets, but ground for MFI and where the grind sits with a comparable 69 -73 S cam.
Thanks

Speedo

911 143 and 144 are billets for CIS S for the 2.7.
You can call Elgin and they can tell you what they are for with their regrind.
MFI cams would have a drive on left cam.

Woops wrong pics of the cams...

I re-posted the correct pics. The left side cam definitely has the MFI drive....I just don't have the pic showing the drive. Let us start all over from the beginning.

911S part numbers, and late '68 dates...'69S which had MFI

Reground a little hotter to "304/288". S should be around 300/270 according to Elgin's website. That is probably a pretty good cam, probably basically like a Mod S cam.

You could try Elgin and see if he knows what it is. After horrible experience with John Dougherty, I recently worked with Web Cam to figure out an unknown set of cams I had. They did a great job and were fast & professional. They can tell you exactly what you have there. No personal experience with Elgin.

While I am asking questions...another strange set

These are supposed to be T cams for a 69, but they shouldn't have the MFI drive. My thought was that they were 72-73 T cams but the numbers don't jive.

TIA

That last pair are the T MFI cams 1972/73.

When I was at Elgins we had 50 or so sets of unground early S type camshafts. These look like a set that were ground to the 304/288 profile. And yes, the unground cams had date codes that didn't match up.
The 6976 should reference the original invoice number if you call Elgin

I have a set of these cams too. Any idea where to set the cam timing. I will be using them in a 2.5 long stroke

Hey speedo (Lars), sorry about your thread but,

John - you haven't replied to my phone calls, emails and won't return what was agreed upon so perhaps this is the only place you read? Where is my 906 cam and the $$ you owe me ??
