My 2.7 Hot Rod Motor build

Just built a 2.7 with 44mm TWM/Borla EFI ITBs, JE 9.5:1 pistons, S-cams, etc. I'm using Megasquirt as the ECU. Here's a video of the 1st start-up. (1st tuning file)

Need some work on the idle, but,,,,,,,,it is running very strong.

Nice,
What did you use for the distributor? Stock 2.7 CIS unit or rebuild to some carb/itb specs?

Jamie,
This may be the best engine I've ever built. It really runs strong, revs freely, makes all the right sounds, etc. It's sitting awfully close to my 914 hot rod...that really needs this engine, but I may hold out for a 3.2 (and use my old Hillborn injection stuff). Might sell this engine to finance the next project.

regards,
al

Riz,
Currently using a 0231 184 001, CIS dizzy, which works well, but would need re-curving to get the most out of this engine....but I also can use the m'squirt to drive the MSD, or crankfire/EDIS or.........

regards,
al

Thanks for the info. I think the 2.7 is a great, lightweight engine for the 914. At least that's what I tell myself.

IF you plan on selling, just let me know. Maybe it'll be before I get mine rebuilt

leak down

After the initial run in and some additional tuning, I performed a leak down test. The results are good and will probably improve with some more use.

Looks and sounds great. I'm building a 2.4 that I plan to convert to EFI. I came across the twm/borla ITBs. What made you choose these over modifying stock ITBS or going with PMO EFI ITBS?

I'm about to install PMO ITB on a 3.6. I am trying to decide which ECU to use. How easy is the Megasuirt to set up. I just want to get it running and close and then let a tuner dial it in.

Thanks

Jerry,
It's relatively easy to get a good start-up file with M'squirt. I recommend that you visit the DIY Autotune website and review the features/specs of the various Megasquirt units. You can buy them as complete, tested units from them. They are also very knowledgeable.

I haven't tuned with one yet, but I was reading the Motec manual and it seems to be similar to M'squirt in set-up and also appears to be easy to get the initial start up file. I would check in with your tuner to see what they recommend and are familiar with.

regards,
al
