Where do you guys get your Dow 55 or 111 locally?

Thank you.

McMaster Carr. I have one in my region so it's like having a local hardware store. I order something this afternoon and it shows up on my doorstep the next day before lunch. If you're using it for o-rings, you want 111 or 112. 55 is not silicone friendly and its twice the price.

Yeah, looks like I'll have to order it.

I found it in a local motorcycle shop. They also had the 3bond I was looking for. They were less than 2 miles from the house and I figured I would give them a try. Glad that I did.

I didn't know that McMaster would make local (residential) deliveries...good to know.

We've been using Dow 55 for o-ring lubricant for years with no negative effects.

"Dow Corning® 55 O-Ring Lubricant is a soft silicone-based grease, slightly swells rubber for better sealing, oxidation resistant and serviceable over a wide temperature range. Used for dynamic lubrication and sealing between rubber and metal parts in pneumatic valves. Typical applications are found within the aircraft, automotive, paintball and other industries."

McMaster Carr does not deliver, but UPS does.

Good to know Henry's had great success with 55. Those with much less experience are probably better off erring on the side of caution, since all silicone is not the same and most people don't know what type of material makes up their o-rings? So I said not silicone friendy just to be safe.

COMPATIBILITY
Molykote 55 O-Ring Grease has
been shown to swell natural rubber.
However, compatibility of the
lubricant may vary with the
plasticizer content of specific
materials (especially elastomers).
Small-scale compatibility testing
should be conducted prior to the
use of this product in any
application.

Molykote 55 O-Ring Grease should
not be used with the following
materials unless thoroughly tested
for your specific application:
 Silicone rubber (SR)
 Polycarbonate (PC)
 Acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene (ABS)
 Liquid oxygen (or other strong
oxidizers)

For what it's worth, I originally used the government-spec 55 from Henry's sealant kit. There was enough for one only application on each o-ring (at least the way I was smearing it on), and unfortunately I find myself having to split and assemble the case a second time.

I would like to recommend he create a #$%@-up kit that contains a little extra 55 for the novice and inept among us... ;)
