Goetze Ring Orientation
Can anyone tell me which compression ring goes in which position. I've had them off and on the pistons so many times I've forgotten what the markings mean!
Rings are Goetze One ring has: "GOE" and "Top" on the other side of the gap. One ring has: "GOE, "Z", and "Top", "IKA" on the other side of the gap. Thanks

I gather your 1st and 2d rings are the same thickness? And you've got "top" figured out.
Here is what I have, showing different ring cross sections. These sometimes differentiate a 1st from a 2d ring. Not Goetze specific, although the middle one one has the information in German on its reverse side, so may be for OEM rings. ![]() The factory manual shows the 2d ring having a notch on its outer bottom. The top ring does not have this notch. One of the diagrams calls this as a 2d ring as "wiper." And the right side diagram shows it as a 2d ring. |

Got it!
Thanks Walt,
I was able to reference my records when I set the ring end gaps and get a match for top and second ring. FYI, These Geotze rings (compression) measured exactly the same in every way. I did find that the ring with the "IKA" on it was the top ring. Regards, Gerry
