What do these bearings say?

About the case, the crank...anything. 69 2.0 S motor with 65K miles on it, had sat for about 25 years. Some pics didn't turn out great, can take new ones of anything specific.

Yep.

Time to re-machine the case parting lines and bore back to standard. One should also review the oil & air filtering this engine had and its maintenance regimens.

Let me add to that and say that a review of what oil that been in use should also be considered. Its not a good choice, whatever that stuff was.

Thank you Gentlemen!

On the oil front, we will never know Steve. this car was parked in a field in TX about 25 years ago. I drained it about 4 years ago after I flew down and got the car home. it fit nicely in the back of a Penske truck.

In those 20 years in TX, mice built quite a nice condo under the shroud, using #3 cylinder as the bathroom. Most fins are dissolved off it, worse though, it dissolved some of the head as well and actually fused it to one of the studs. I got it off with a lot of heat but left a 1mm thick covering of Al on the stud. and the mating surface to the cylinder was dissolved away a little, so I'm on the lookout for a 901.104.308.1R / k1819f head, and a cyclinder, but I think I can use a 2.0 E cylinder, so not as important as the head.

any recommendations on who to send the case to for work? What should be done to it?

I send all cases needing the parting lines machined and rebored to standard to Ollie's in AZ. Everything else is all done here in-house,...

The case should be thoroughly cleaned with all the oil galley plugs removed, case-savers installed, and the oil bypass modification to use an SC/Carrera pump.

Thank you Steve. I know what case savers are, but what exactly do they do for a case like mine? Preventive maintenance?

Case Savers prevent stripped threads in critical positions and that's something ALL magnesium cases should have, given their age and number of heat cycles.

Its simply proactive engine building procedures & practices.

thank you Steve, appreciate your help. I got Ollie's price list, looks like I'll have a few $ into the case, but will be top shelf when done.

The FOD scratches were obvious but what was the telltale for line bore? Just an assumption due to mag and age or something visible? Learning

If the crank was turning straight in the case there would be uniform wear.
We can assume the crank is not bent but the case is no longer centered .Making the wear pattern not uniform

Is that pattern on the #1 also indicative of hard clutch usage? #1 is flanged and bigger to support the load it sees from the flywheel/clutch. So I thought often times that wear is also from the shock loads that occur from clutching?

Hadn't considered bore alignment as being the cause of that issue (probably because the sleeves provide support there) so thanks for the education guys!

The back end of the crank would have to be flexing a LOT- to make that pattern..

The number 5 bearing looks like it has less wear (shinier) on the flywheel end vs the dissy end? Might just be the lighting.

The back of the bearings might have additional clues.
