What is the purpose of this ball???

Going back together and I see in the manual that there is a small ball like a check valve that goes in between the adapter to the oil line and the adapter attached to the case. What is the function of this ball? Does it restrict flow to the Turbo? Or does it prevent the oil from siphoning back to the engine when the engine is off and starving the Turbo on start up? This is a part that could be overlooked very easily.

It keeps oil in the turbo system so it doesnt have to wait for oil to get to the turbo bearings. Its the same 9mm ball that is used in the Carrera fuel rail.

That makes sense. How easy it would be to miss this on a tear down. Thanks for the reply.

Also...when sutting down a turbo engine...let it idle for a few seconds...then kill the ignition without blipping the throttle.
When the ignition dies...and the turbo is ramping up (blipping throttle) the oil supply is zero to the turbo bearings.
New turbo cars do this automatically...with electronic safety devices.
