3.2 Mods

How much extra power should be available by changing chip and maybe boring the throttle body on a Euro spec 3.2?

Would it need a revised MAF sensor and are these available?

Chris,
My 3.2 row made 250hp in UK before I bought it. This was with custom made chip by Wayne Schofield and M&K one in two out rear muffler and bypass in place of front one. It is said that boring the throttle body does not really help without changing cams.

Is the throttle body the smallest cross-section of the intake?
If you add up all the intake runners (cross-section area) and divide by 5 (to allow for residual pressure) how does that compare to the area of the throttle body?
If the numbers are the same...or the body is bigger...then boring it out should not give better HP.
If the body is smaller....it might be helping with low end torque...so enlarging it will give more HP at the top end...but who drives around the streets at 8000RPM?

My 84 3.2L is chipped my Steve Wong, MSDS headers with 2 to 1 MSDS exhaust, Easton Intake polished for smooth flow , KN filter and Magnecor 8.5mm wires..

Just dyno'ed at 215hp at the wheels..assuming 20% loss thru drive line... plus 250bhp is pretty awesome for a stock 3.2L It's quick, very quick

fyi

Hmm, very interesting.

I have a "stock" '86 3.2 coupe with 138k on it and never been rebuilt. It has a Vertex chip, stock headers and an aftermarket Cat (PO had removed b/c his locale allowed that; I had to re-install cat to pass DC's strict emissions req'mts.).

Frankly, compared to my '72 E rebuilt to 2.7 RS-spec w/ 9.3 JE pistons (220+ HP?), my '86 hasn't wowed me either with drive-by-wire throttle response or the milder cam. The 2.7 was on fire over 4,000 RPM w/ the S cams and ran up to 7300. The 3.2 has decent torque, but no thrills or excitement when you wind it up. It actually reminds me of my '70 T which didn't have near the torque but also ran out of breath over 5,000 RPM and underscores the importance of cams in a 911.

As I plan an impending rebuild, I'm trying to identify the best options for induction, cams and exhaust. I know lots of people just swap out the 3.2 for a 3.6 but what are the best 3.2 options?

The kicker's my car's a daily driver and DC requires OEM emissions output--even 356's have to pass very stringent emissions tests here.

Thanks,
John
