83SC case question.

I have 83SC motor I check the engine number in the red book and it said US 3.0. My question is it doesnt have a sump plate like my 80SC. Was this a change in the last year of the SC case?
CASE numbers: 930-101-103-5R, 930-101-104-5R
Engine # *64D5601*

Any incite would be appreciated.

The plan was to introduce the new casting with the drainplug at the side for the upcoming 3.2 enginge. Though, the moulds for the casing halves (old 3.0) was so worn in medio 83 that it was decided to abandon them, and start Production of the new castings in the new moulds at the end of the 3.0 era.

So what you have is one of the very late 3.0 litre engines

And it should have all the bosses to install Carrera fuel injection and open to 3.4 with crank and rods.

Thanks for that info Flat 6. This motor has a spun rod bearing and I am on the fence on which route to take. If I keep this project car I will have a engine to try a no pressure rebuild. I was very hands on during my top end re-build of my 80SC, and have been looking forward to a opportunity to do the full monte solo.
My goal would be to build a very solid street engine with a flat torque curve. The roads on Kauai often put you in just the wrong spot for a stock 3.0 with a 915. Speed limits 50, so your dam near redline in second, if you don't come in with momentum when you want to overtake. Nice to have more punch before 4400 RMP.

Any thoughts on what would be the path of least resistance ie $$ for a 3.2 SS or 3.4 build. This motor has converted venturiies on Zenith 40's. When you say open to a 3.4 with crank and rods do you mean case mill work to accept a 3.2 Crank and associated 3.2 rods with larger wrist pins? I don't have access to a machine shop that has experience with 911 cases here on this small island.

I assume at the minimum I will need: Feel free to add items.

1 std/std replacement crank. 800.00
Possible new Oil Cooler, do you guys have luck cleaning them or is it standard procedure to swap out after a rod bearing failure?
Stock 3.0 Rods? Resized?
Heads? Find Euros? Look for 3.2 heads? Open existing?
New ARP rod bolts
Gasket set
Possible J/E pistons? Cant' I count the number of fins on the cylinders to determine if there Ansul verse Mahle?

Or you could just flip it on Ebay and double your money

I've been following this car for a while and almost bought it for the price you got it for. I'm curious to see what ends up happening to it...

The case is a straight install of 3.2 crank and rods. The Carrera heads have a lower intake height than the SC heads. Some of the last of the 83 915 trans were cast with the notches for the flywheel sensors of the Carrera.
