over sized bearings

Does anyone have a source to get bearings that are one over sized (.25mm inner diameter). Need them for the crank and rods. The ones I have found are close to $1000.

come on, $1000 for a curved piece of metal? There has to be an aftermarket of some source I am missing to get them cheaper. Regular ones are $50

Thanks,

Chris

You are not missing anything,....no aftermarket sources for O/S rod & main bearings for the 2.7's & smaller engines.

This is why we machine the cases when they need O/S mains. :)

I was able to get some for my case that had been linebored by motorsheister for oversized bearings from ollies. as i recall wasabout 350 buckss for the set.

My machine shop guy says he has a standard / standard crank from a 2.7 he perfers to use. Has not given me a price yet.

Contact me by phone or email. We have a large number of over and undersized bearing sets in stock and the price is rarely as bad as urban legend predicts.

Hi,
Talking about urban legends... I have a friend that claims that he uses Toyota fourrunner bearings on 911 engines. But really I do not have any more details. I'm going to call him and ask again. 5vz engines.

Anything is possible.
Parts are parts...size is all that matters.
I found a set of points one time that fit a Massey Ferguson tractor....and used them in my MG....same size...same screw holes.
Don't be afraid to look into alternate sources.
Check the dimensions of the part you need...and find a transposition catalogue (used to be a staple item at auto wreckers).
Perhaps you will be the one to crack the money/part cost problem we all have!

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a cross reference with another engine manufacturer that isn't published. Another $1000 bearing set would never be sold...

it's so ridiculous. They are just stamped half circles of metal.

... or bi-metal or more. $1000 for a set of bearings would entertain a more viable option of sourcing a std. crank.

Sherwood,

That's the path I am going down. Strange how a 30 lb crank can cost less than .25 lb's of simple curved metal.

My machine shop has a crank from a 2.7 that is standard for $500. Anyone want a perfeclty good one over crank ;-)

I am assuming the 2.7 crank is exactly the same as my 2.4

They made more crankshafts than oversize bearings. Thank God (or equiv. deity) for that stroke of corporate strategy. Imagine sourcing a 1973 Ferrari crank.

Yup. 70.4mm stroke.
