alternator or Voltage Regulator
My car, fresh from complete rebuild, is a screamer:-) Only problem is it's not producing enough voltage. I had the alternator rebuilt a while ago and replaced the voltage regulator at the same time.
So, how do I tell if its an alternator problem or voltage regulator problem? The voltage regulator is separate from the alternator. Thanks in advance, Chris 73 911 E |
Easy way to tell is to go to battery with a multimeter and get these results:
Car Off Batter Volts: (should be 12.something Car Running with RPM at 3000+: should be above 12 and at least 13 Car Off again: should be 12. something. If when the car is running you don't get anything different or above 13, then you probably have a bad alternator. If the car reads like 16 or 17 when running, the voltage regulator is broken and need replaced. Hope this helps. And if you need the alternator rebuilt, I used Central Jersey Starter and Alternator in NJ |
