alternator or Voltage Regulator

My car, fresh from complete rebuild, is a screamer:-) Only problem is it's not producing enough voltage. I had the alternator rebuilt a while ago and replaced the voltage regulator at the same time.

So, how do I tell if its an alternator problem or voltage regulator problem? The voltage regulator is separate from the alternator.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Easy way to tell is to go to battery with a multimeter and get these results:
Car Off Batter Volts: (should be 12.something
Car Running with RPM at 3000+: should be above 12 and at least 13
Car Off again: should be 12. something.

If when the car is running you don't get anything different or above 13, then you probably have a bad alternator. If the car reads like 16 or 17 when running, the voltage regulator is broken and need replaced. Hope this helps. And if you need the alternator rebuilt, I used Central Jersey Starter and Alternator in NJ
