996 rebuild -> 3.6L to 4.2L
I have a 2004 911 4S (996) with a cracked cylinder. I am having the engine rebuilt by an outfit in LA called Vision Motors. They have asked if I would like to bore it out, put in chromoly sleeves and up the displacement to 4.0L or 4.2L.
Question: Is this a good idea? Will the rest of the car be able to handle the extra HP? Should I upgrade the oil cooler or add a performance clutch? How about the deep oil sump? Any thoughts would be appreciated, and references on Vision are also welcome |

Vision Motorsports is a reputable shop. The owner came from and trained under the wings of Porsche Motorsport/Andial before starting Vision, and has always and continues to be deep rooted in Porsche motorsport racing. Building and tuning the watercooled Porsche motors is a core business for them and you will routinely see several M96/97 motors being rebuilt in their engine department. If any one in the nation has the experience to build, improve, and modify these motors, these are the go to guys.
