engine stand yoke

Why is it necessary to mount the yoke on the right side of the engine (passenger side)? is this a structural issue?

That is the side where the oil pump is mounted. If you would split the case with the wrong side mounted in the yoke, you would probably have an issue with the intermediate shaft being connected to the pump.

I'm not planning to split the case. So if that's the only issue then I'm all set. Thanks for the quick reply.
