reassembly after oil leak repair
For some reason I loosened this nut while replacing the seal on my breather vent. I did this a few months ago and do not have pictures of this area to aid me in reassemble. I assume something attaches to this area and needed to be removed to replace the breather vent seal. Can some one help? I have not been able to find photos or diagrams of this spot.

Having a hard time with the photo I'm trying to post, but on my 3.2 I have the alternator ground wire on that nut.

Might be where the lifting bracket goes.

Nut
That is where the alternator main ground wire is attached.

The ground wire is attached up on the front by the pulley, not back by the breather.

On my row-79 sc, the ground wire was attached to the same nut. Just checked my old pictures, had the same nut loose on them.

I would place a bet on the alternator ground wire (the big, stiff, brittle, brown one) based on seeing the double washers on the stud. People put those wires on anyone of those studs sometimes making it easier to pull the alt while in the car.

I checked the pics on my 87 and I don't think I loosened that case nut. As others have said, alt ground strap connects to the next closest nut - maybe yours was on a different one?

Well, since he has to attach the alternator ground somewhere, either he attaches it here, or he pulls one of the washers, tightens the nut, and removes the nut in the more common location and uses that stud for the ground wire.
Either way, he doesn't have to worry that he's lost some critical part that attaches here. |
