SC rally motor tear down and questions about cylinders
I finally decided to get my engine torn down for my rally build and so far everything looks good. I plan to hopefully removal all the studs tonight along with the connecting rods. As of now I am interested in what cylinder options I have to run aftermarket 10.5:1 pistons? Initially I planned to have my cylinders sent out and nikasil coated, but i'm unsure if KS cylinders make good candidates for this.
Thoughts? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1384192653.jpg |
I remember reading somewhere on here that KS cylinders in fact make excellent candidates for nikasil replating. Of course don't rely on my advice. I would give EBS a call, or one of the plating companies. It can be done, and it seems very economical when compared w the cost of new cylinders. There's a lot of companies spoken about on here that can replate your cylinders and match them to a new set of JE's at whatever compression ratio you need...

I just spoke with Don at EBS and he echoed your sentiment about the KS parts...

Did he tell you that Carrera cylinders are preferred because the sealing surface is better for 98mm cylinders if you go to 3.2 SS.

I have actually been planning to stick with a three liter motor. Should I run the car above three liters, it places me in "group 5" against boosted or large displacement cars. Sticking with a 95mm bore will allow me to run in "Group 2" against most 4 cyl non turbo rally cars.
