I haven't tried extending the 622 yet, but luckily my intakes are very good so I will only lap them :)
I had no idea this engine would take this many hours to complete... I'm used to working on 4-5cyl vw/audi engines, so when I started this I was planning to have the engine back in the car in a couple of weeks, yeah right :p |
While I'm waiting for my new valve guides I drew a cylinder holder tool you can make if you have a 3D printer :)

Awesome project, any updates?
I'm looking into doing a similar ITB setup. |
just a quick update, cylinders have been nikasil plated and bored/honed to my dimmensions by US chrome, cost $189 per cyl, and are on their way back to me :)
I will post pictures and do a dimmension check and RA measurement when I get them :) |
Wow thats cheap what were they bored to we pay over 400 bucks here per cylinder there is only one place in the country that nikasils so we are stuffed.
|
Got my cylinders today :)
I was suprised that there where no documention that verify they are made to my spec. Anyway i will measure them tomorrow including the surface roughness RA. DC-30 camshafts are in the mail as well :) http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psc1642f54.jpg |
I also got 1,5 spare 2.7 engine today, not sure what I'm gonna do with it, maybe i'll make a coffe table out of it...

Flat 6's make great tables. Keep up the good work.

Can I stack the cylinder to case gaskets?
My stock was 0.25mm, I see from my notes I had to remove 0.4mm from the heads, so I should have a 0.65mm gasket. Or can I use the 0.5mm gasket? |
cams arrived today :

4 bearing cams in a 2.7?
|
|
So finally I got 5 of 6 cylinder base gaskets....
Installed on p/c to find out that stock rod pins are to long for JE pistons, argh http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psadb2d50f.jpg |
Forgot to update here
P/C installed with supertec headstuds http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psa32d4535.jpg |
Cam timing, took some time and some tries ended up with
cyl1-2-3 3.89mm cyl4-5-6 3.81mm that was as close to 3.8mm I could get on the DC-30 camshafts http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps26802226.jpg |
The dial goes backwards from 0, so this is at 3.89mm

So I bought the camshaft oil restrictors, and after reading much for/against I decided to drill it somewhere inbetween.
From left stock - drilled - restrictor http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps0ce4ca8a.jpg |
Then I looked into the camshaft housing, and dooh there is a much smaller hole than the stock 6mm, I'll measure it tomorrow, but anything bigger than that up to stock hole is meaningless then...
I drilled mine 3.5mm, but if that is bigger than what's in the camshaft housing than it's the same if it's 3.5 or 6mm... http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps4dbec19e.jpg |
u r correct on all that u say here...but... keep in mind the entire oil circuit when using the later "restricted/smaller hole" fitting has increased overall system oil pressure which is another gain from using the smaller hole fitting...the other gain - debated by many - when using the restricted/smaller hole fitting, less oil is on top of the motor = better oil scavenging by the oil pump as there is more oil down in the sump that can be scavenged & a bit less fluctuation in the qty of oil in the oil tank...
|
So I measured the hole in the camshaft housing today, it's 4mm, so I still have a bit restriction in the new fitting after I drilled it.
I agree with the increased oil pressure etc, and then there are those who think the cylinder heads need all the oil (coling) they can get, so that's why I went in between with the holes in the fitting, so now I can please both parts :p |

Nice work -do you have any other pictures of the ITB setup under the rain hats? Those look a lot like PMO in the video but it's hard to tell.
|
Zenith's at the moment, I'm breaking in the engine before switching to efi/itb's since I'll probarbly use a lot of time learning it :)
250miles done now, breaking in the engine after waynes r dempseys book. Had a small oil leak http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psfc43a9c3.jpg |
I thought this was the oil pressure sender leaking, but it turned out the be the crankcase breather cover, I had taken it from another engine and didn't check it.
From now called the banana cover :p http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...psc791ed57.jpg |
Sanded it down and it's not leaking anymore.
Engine is running very good, there is a lot difference from the first day to now. My Zenith's have 32mm venturis which was for the stock engine, I guess this one would benefit more from 34mm? |
Winter is here so I'll continue the efi/itb saga in the garage, made some adapters to fit the intake manifolds-gsxr600 tb's

Arent you going to keep the Porsche cylinder spacing? IMO the Porsche manifold with Weber spacing looks kind of weird and was certainly a compromise back in the day..
GSXR ITB's can be easily spaced how you like with some fabrication. |
Eventually I will space them evenly, I just want to test how long my 3d printed adapters will hold out, so this is just a in-between setup :)
|
Where did you get the spacers below the ITB's on your engine?
|
Neffets,
What ECU or engine management system are you using ? |
So fast forwarding, still on carb, this is whp
I'm still on stock heaters and muffler, just made twin outlet, there seems to be more to be had with higher rpm, hp just keeps climing until i reach rev limiter. The dip 2-3000rpm is the carbs not wanting to start from that low rpm 9.5:1 single plug, DC30 cams, Zenith 40 Tin with 34mm venturis, heads are portet to I/E 36/35, stock CIS distributor So this should equal about 219bhp http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508425182.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1508425182.png <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/SLw0YFJeWCM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
