Converting from CIS to PMOs What to do with distributor
My engine is a 3.0 and its in the machine shop now. I've got the 9.5-1 pistons and the cams are being reground to 964. Have the 46 PMOs. Ive also got a MSD. Now just what do I need to do with the OEM distributor?

Really you should have you distributor recurved (around $650) or go with something like a crankfire set-up. Electromotive crank fire set-ups often come up for sale in the classifieds.
All solutions are going to run you about the same coin. The stock dizzy will hook up to the MSD, if you don't have the MSD instructions go to their website.

If you have a 78-79 Distributor you can run it as is. If you have an 80-83, you should have it recurved. You can also recurve it yourself. Gunter has a good thread on rebuilding a distributor and once you have it apart you should be able to make it have more advance. You do things like bending the stops and filing stops. You want to have 30 degrees advance at high RPM and about 10 degrees advance at idle.

first thing, if going PMO why use a 964 cam? lots of other options out there.
on the dizzy, why not swap out the dist drive gear on the crank, then you can use an earlier '72 - '73 distributor. |
