Hi Gary,

Thanks for the kind compliment on the tool. Glad to hear that the simple modification made an improvement for use on your engine. If you ever need additional spare parts, don't hesitate to contact me.

How about the video please?

Hello. I'm considering the purchase of this tool for my next valve adjustment. As time is apparently against you on this video thing, how about a quick video vignette of the process for adjusting just one valve?

This being my first valve adjustment in preparing for, I've done a lot of research, albeit in a very compressed amount of time, and the method using this tool seems quite simple and it appears feedback is consistently good. My mind was originally boggled how the dial gauge methods I've read about produce such mixed results, but I think I'm beginning to understand the mechanics behind the method of measurement which differentiates this from the dial gauge methods. Basically this tool uses the accuracy of the known thread count of the valve adjuster screw, while all other methods use the rocker, which due to its inherent play and the sensitivity of the gauge, are prone to inconsistent error prone measurements. I'm sure there are experts who use these tools correctly, but we mortals have to realize our inconsistent techniques add a multiplier to the equation as well.

Anyway, I'm more of a visual / hands-on learner, so those of us like me out there would appreciate a video explaining and illustrating the mechanics of how this tool works.

Really, you'll find that once you try the first valve, it's child-play, you dont need a video. Once you buy one, the only counsel I would give, having now used the tool to check and adjust all 12 valves 3 or 4 times, is to just get comfortable with the feel of how tight a closed rocker should feel before winding it back the 0.1mm and locking...i.e., it's not TIGHT, it's just nipped...undo/redo/undo/redo 3 or 4 times and you'll soon get a consistent finger-torque feeling that's repeatable across the remaining 11.

Caveat: My experience is only with the engine on a stand, I've not yet had the "pleasure" (!) of doing this in-situ...on a Turbo lump....packed with stuff....it's going to be a real delight (I'll probably drop the engine, it'll be less frustrating than removing the tinware and contorting myself upwards for the inlet valves)

Thanks for the input. I think you're probably right. I'd just prefer as much prep beforehand to help build confidence going into unknown territory.

Will this tool work on a turbo motor? Are there any clearance issues on Exhaust Valve #1 and wastegate?

Thanks

John

Can't give you a definitive answer I'm afraid, I'm not running the stock WG (now have a pair of Tials that are well out of the way of the exh valve covers)...but when it was stock, I remember that even getting the lower 1-2-3 valve cover off with the stock WG was a wrestle. With a screamer pipe, it was far easier to just unbolt it, but this may not be the case with a stock muffler on the end of it.

I am running a Powerhaus header with a Tial F46 Wastegate. I have no issues removing the valve cover, but do recall having some issues getting screw driver in there to hold the lash adjuster.

I just wanted to add to this thread that I used the tool this past weekend to do my first valve adjustment on my '87 911, and it was a piece of cake. I had never done a valve adjustment on any car before. If you just take your time, and go step by step it's fine. The valve sound great, much quieter than before. It just takes time to get the AC compressor out of the way, move the ignition wires out of the way, take off the valve covers, etc, but if you give yourself a day and don't even work fast you'll be done before dark. Great tool!

Spenny_b 04-04-2016 05:34 PM

Yup, further to my posts above, I've also recently now used the tool to perform the check/adjustment in-situ. Piece of cake. Of course, tinware needs removing, but was a lot easier and quicker than I expected.

Double checking with a feeler gauge also proved to me that it was accurate and consistent; can't ask for much more than that.

Video?

WHERE IS THE VIDEO?!?!?!?

toddu 08-25-2016 06:08 AM

Honestly, I don't see the need for a video. Pretty straightforward how it works.

I didn't remove the tinware, so this is not essential. If you want to remove it for fun, go for it though. :)

Hey DK,

Geez, I am late to this game. I bought the tripod tool, the pins fell off so now I have a very expensive short screw driver :(

So I can not seem to find the tool on the parts section.

I would like to order one.

Please advise,

Jim

Oops, never mind, found it :D
