Unknow or wrong engine configuration?
Hi guys,
Really hope someone can help me out! I bought an early 911 (1969) with the original engine and parts in cases alongside with it. The engine was built in the US by somebody I don't have the name from. A mechanic but I don't know from what company. It seems now that the configuration is a little strange. The 2.7T engine (from 1974) has magnesium 2.2E stacks (don't know if they are bored), 2.4T injection pump (don't know if recalibrated) and a single point distributor (when idle already 10 degrees forward and with some throttle 30 dergrees). I think the cams used in this engine are the original ones, 2.0E cams, cause they are not in the cases. Used engine (with unknown config) in the car has number: 6130158 The engine type is 911/51 Car is driving quite fast, a lot of torque in low gear. Could this be a configuration carefully set up or just a couple of parts put together? The car is holding back when driving in 5th. 60-70 miles per hour. Lower RPM's and steady throttle it has little hick-ups and doesn't feel well. When putting the pedal down it immediately picks up and is quite fast. Does anybody know something about a configuration like this? Could this be carefully set up or just a wrong mix of parts? I do have 5 worksheets of the mechanic with a parts list and work carried out, would this help figuring out what happened with the engine? Am preparing for a really in two weeks and don't want to drop out ![]()

Your engine number is for 73 MFI 2.4 T mean fuel pump should be ok 2.2E stack should work to lbore is little bigger E cam depend on P/C and assuming they are in original configuration.

and if they did put in 2.7 cylinders? Then it would be a half-half configuration? Would this work?

Do the sheets show the pistons, cylinders and cams installed? Does it mention cylinder head work, valves.
Impossible to tell wiithout information on the 5 pages you say you have, maybe list what seems like the significant items.

I can’t really tell but if you have there the 5 worksheets of the mechanic with a parts list maybe you should compare your engine parts to the worksheets you have and try solving it as well but if it’s not working you should ask some engine professionals about that.

The issue you are having sounds like a partial throttle lean condition. Be carefull this usually means detination and can cause pistons to break. It's very hard to dial out with MFI as the MFI is not designed for the cam it is running...or just not dialed in.
