Hi guys, I've just repaired A leak in my power steering hose the other week, I now find the leak is back its leaking from the pressure hose this hose has almost tripled in size due to the presure in it as I ended up putting clamps on it to seal leak, can someone please tell me what could be causing this? & is it an easy job to fix my self. the porsche guys here in syd Australia are trying to sell me A hose for $330. seems A bit rich also I find it strange the hose is blowing up like A balloon.

Hello Gus,
Doesn't seem like we have anything relative to the 964 power steering hoses in our tech forms. What I would recommend is going to this article: Pelican Technical Article: 993 Technical Article: and posting this question in the comments section at the bottom. Typically we have a technician that comes in to answer them and could quite possibly add an article that answers your exact question afterwards. Hope this helps you a bit. |

ozzygus- I'm reading stories more and more often of that high pressure line leaking. What you're seeing ballooning is just the protective rubber sleeve around the actual hose. That hose uses "field serviceable" hydraulic fittings. All you need is the correct inner and outer diameter hydraulic hose, and you can replace it yourself. The fittings are kind of like -an (aeroquip) fittings in that they compress down on the hose by screwing them on.
The hard part is getting the hose off. ![]() Good luck! *Edit- I saw your post in the 964/993 forum. That U-shaped hose is not the field-serviceable one. It still has a protective sleeve, which is what is ballooning. Good news, it's much easier to remove. Any hydraulic shop will be able to replace the rubber part and crimp on new fittings. Just make sure that they know that it's a high pressure line.
