Head Stud Depth

Following on from debates about 'bottoming' studs and the new generation of Cosworth Subaru Head Studs which have a base feature we are starting to model the threads in the case, the stud and the head joint.

If we produce a good 3-D model we can export it ANSYS build the preload in and 'warm it up' to look at the stresses.

One thing I have little or no data about is the depth of the blind stud holes in the various generations of engine case and the variations.

I have early Aluminium Cases, early mag cases, 5R/7R cases, Carrera 3 cases and SC cases but I don't have any 3.2 cases.

has anyone every made any measurements of the depth of blind hole and the depth of thread?

Any data would be helpful.

Thanks

Chris, I measured a 930/25 case ( 1987 3.2 ) and found the head stud case hole to be 34.75mm to 35.00mm total depth. The bottom of the hole has an un-threaded area of 6.5mm in depth. The studs are 163.75 to 164.00mm in length and the case end threaded portion is 25mm in length.

Mark,

Thanks that's virtually identical to the SC case.
