930/02 receipe for HP
In the next few months I will be diving into a full restoration on a '77 Carrera 3.0. From my research it seems this motor can be improved some from it's factory specs.
I want to retain the original CIS. Can I improve the compression ratio? Is there a mild cam to work with CIS? Is an early SSI system too restrictive? Which muffler (2/1, 2/2) would increase horsepower and give me a small sound improvement? My local machine shop has a unique flow bench tested and dyno proven 911 valve job that will give me around 20hp. Is 230-240 crank Hp realistic? Thanks! |

CR can be bumped with custom pistons. This may not be the best option if you expect 100K+ from the rebuild You can use a 964 grind cam with CIS. SSI's with a GOOD sport muffler is just perfect. With all respect to your machine shop, no valve job adds 20 BHP to a CIS engine. The limitation here is the CIS and mild cams, not the heads. ![]() ![]() 220-225 BHP is possible with a 3.0 Carrera if its properly assembled and tuned using good gas.
