mag chain housing w/ alum cover?

My magnesium timing chain box covers are lost, but I have nice set of aluminum covers that seem to fit the magnesium chain housings well. My question is whether it is acceptable to use alum covers with mag chain boxes or do I need to use magnesium covers? I'm building a 2.8 motor on a 7R case.

I also noticed that the aluminum chain housings are about 1 pound heavier each than the magnesium ones. In spite of this small weight penalty, is it considered an upgrade to use aluminum boxes for a high output engine?

I have used mag housings on 4 sandcast race motors. Lighter' no issues. Have to add a stud to do it right. Used (reused, really) on SS2.8 also. Are the covers for pressure feds alu? If so, you'd have to modify mag covers. Easy to deal with the two long 8mm studs on left cover and lengths if different.

Walt thank you for the advice. To answer your question, the aluminum covers are not the pressure fed type and think they came off an early sc. So, thinking it should be an easy swap.
