2.7l with aluminum case?
Hi everyone,
I recently read somewhere that the 3.0l in the Carrera 3.0 revved faster than the 3.0 in the SC due to the use of the crank from the 2.7l engines. I have no idea if this is true, but it got me to wonder whether it would be possible to replace the magnesium case in a 2.7l engine with an aluminum case from a 3.0, 3.2, or 3.3l. By that I mean retain the 2.7l crank, rods, cams, pistons, cylinders, and heads, and just swap in the more robust aluminum case. I'm guessing that this isn't actually possible, mainly because I've never heard of anyone doing it. Perhaps the head stud spacing is different? Just curious...

Well, it looks like I answered my own question right inside the question.
Head stud spacing is different!

Yes, You can build a 2.7 aluminum block, several friends have them, start w/ 2.0 liter aluminum block which was used from '64 to '67, use 2.4/2.7 crank, rods, heads, cam carriers etc p/c valves and cams to suit the usage, MFI or carbs or later EFI for engine managment. You can't get a 2.7 from a later al. 930 case because the cylinder spigot bores are too big
