901/01 engine numbers
I was cleaning the shop and started looking at an old aluminum cased engine I have had for a while. The engine is stamped with 901/01 2192 which leads me to believe it is a 65-66 engine. The serial number on the case is 328028 which leads me to believe it is a 68 engine, but this number is missing a digit to be a 68. See pics
![]() ![]() Sorry the pictures aren't great but the engine is below a bunch of other stuff. What is this? |

Thanks Aaron,
I think you are correct it has the center lube Solex cams and forged rockers. I haven't dug into it any more than that. |

I think there is a thread on Early S that has lots of info about the Early Case numbers and the sequential numbers. You may find out what the original serial number should be by their data.
Since it has centerlube cams the real serial number would be 903069 and earlier... Good Luck!
