993 injector seating?
Hello,
I'm concerned about the mounting of the injectors between the fuel rail and the plastic injector cup piece. It seems to me that the injectors should be bottomed out in the cups, but the rail location and clips seem to pull the injectors about a 1/2" out of their seats. Is this normal? Are the brackets on my rails bent? Thanks, Sam ![]() ![]() |

Even the Carreras and C2 s pull out a little to settle.

I wouldn't worry about it... the injectors aren't under (much) external pressure, are they? The o-rings seal everything up, as long as the rail is bolted down, it should be OK.

Thanks for the replies.
No, I don't think my injectors are in a strained condition or might leak. It just seems to me that, from the perspective of performance, you'd want the injector nozzle right up to the manifold, not retracted into it's seat in the cup. My fuel rail is a scrapyard part and I thought it might be tweaked. Anyways, guess I'll live with it as new rails are ridiculous at like 700 dollars. |

I understand your point. But believe it or not, the "atomized" fuel produced by the EV1-style injectors in the 993 and 964 (and 3.2 for that matter) is more of a stream. EV6 and later injectors with multiple holes and other improvements produce much more of a cone-type atomized mist.
Here's a comparison video, EV6 first (at least one spray pattern), followed by EV1. https://youtu.be/Zu25-ObPUGM
