distributor rebuild recommendations
 

I have a '76 euro distributor (237-301-001) 1 hose pot I'd like to get rebuilt. This is going into a modded bastard '79 3.3 bottom '76 3.0 top (heads-intake) motor.

Might not be th the right distributor. I think the 3.3 engine uses the counterclockwise SC distributor.

If you use the 76 Carrera 3 distributor, you will need the CW crank gear from the same engine to install on the SC crank which has the CCW one.

The short block is complete, so the 3.0 is ruled out. My 2 reasonably priced options seem to be a 3.3 distributor w/msd or Electromotive xdi.

Shouldn't any 3.0 (at least 78 or later) distributor work? My recollection is that the 2.7 and earlier distributors, in addition to being clockwise, are also narrower where they go into the case?

Or does the 3.0 turbo/76-7 Euro Carrera 3.0 case use the narrow distributor? My race motors are all crank fire, so I haven't had to do anything about distributors other than plug the hole.

There are two difference clockwise crank gears and miss-matching the distributor gear can be a disaster.
I could build you the distributor as well but given our history, that seems like a silly option.

Thanks for the information. If there is no advantage to using the 3.0 distributor on the 3.3 motor I'd prefer to sell it to someone who needs it. The Electromotive xdi looks like a good choice.

Thank you for that!!! Interesting. Rather than go through the headache of tracking down the bearings and such for my 993 twin-dizzy, this could be a viable solution.

I would recommend Kurt at PartsKlassic. He recently did distributor for a friend and the work is very very good.

Yikes, I've only heard good things about him... until now.

Kurt at ************ is one of those guys who seems to know his field backward, forward, sideways, and upside down. He's got distributors figured out. I told him of my difficulties getting the three Allen bolts buried down inside to release - I heated the distributor body, which loosened the bolts but melted plastic parts inside. He said he puts fractious distributors in his mill and mills off the bolt heads. When he gets the stuff they hold out he bores the stubs out and gets the remaining threads to give up and come out. I'd never be able to drill a hole right in the center of such a small bolt! But he has the tools and skills.

I've bought some distributor parts from him, and they are first class. I'd expect his work to be equally good.

And of course there's always the guy who already posted on this thread; Steve@Rennsport!!! Wish we could clone him and his shop for us East Coasters...
