Mods needed for 2.0 case to accommodate 3.6 oil pump
As the title says, is there any mods required to an 2.0 case to install a 964 3.6 oil pump?
Thanks for your replies. |

Short answer: Yes
The cavity where the 2.0 pump rests is too small for the larger chambers of the 964 pump. The block needs to be clearanced to accommodate the pump. If you place the pump inside the case halves you'll see where. I remember from when I recently assembled a 2.1 for a 914/6 conversion. Pictures of the car and the engine are on my instagram.

It's not a big deal. I used a suitable saw to knock the larger chunks (not that large) off the case where it interfered, and a die grinder to finish it off. You just keep putting the pump in and seeing where its case hits. You want a little bit of clearance just to be sure you can't possibly compromise the clamping of the two case halves together, but don't need much.
Check for rods hitting the pump as well, though I don't think you'll have that issue with the 66mm crank. I didn't with a 70.4 crank either. |
