Can these cylinders be saved

barn find car had a 2.0 Mg case S-spec engine with Webers. Would have been nice to have been in a barn and not on the side of the house, then half the engine wouldn't have been filled with water time and again.

Also have S heads that are rotten, will post those later.

3 of the cylinders look reasonable though scored. but three like these, can they be saved?

and will it be worth it?

Probably easier to find replacements, might send one out to the likes of EBS and see if they can plate them. All the early stuff with the exception of the T were those cylinders.

Millennium Technologies may be able to save them. How much is a good set worth?

Shaun @ Tru6 05-30-2015 05:24 PM

Thanks Bruce and Jim. Replacements can be hard to come by these days though it does help that E and S cylinders were the same. They typically come with pistons, a good set is $1K to $2K.

I can send pics to EBS and see what Don thinks. Looked up Millennium, will call them too.

Those don'the look saveable.
911 Vintage Parts will have good replacements.

Thank you Henry.

I actually only need one cylinder of the right height group to match the ones for my 69S engine. A mouse lived on top of #3 for many years and pee ate away all the fins. Also fused the head to the studs so that head is similarly ruined.

A friend of mine had these I was considering either using one of the good ones (which may still not be good) or having all of these refreshed and keep mine on a shelf.

Will post more pics tomorrow of P/Cs and heads. Those are scary.

Shaun

I should have some replacements

Thanks Tom, hopefully I'll be going to NY this week and will stop by.

Here are the heads. I could take a million pics. I think the only way to determine if they are rebuildable is to bring them to Bob at Anchor Atlantic or similar. I cleaned these quickly with soda.

The real shame is that I think every head has something major wrong with it. The one pictured with a nice dome has an eaten away exhaust port and intake valve base is gone. But as 69S heads, I think they should at least sit on a shelf forever if necessary. The ones with bad domes and destroyed seats have good ports. All have an MFI injector hold plugged with a bolt, see top of last pic.
