Hello gents, I put the injectors in baby bottles and jumpered the fuel pump with the key in run. All injectors had a nice spray pattern and delivered the same amount of fuel. They should because they are new, but I guess that tests the lines for pluggage as well.
Still workin on that damn cold start valve. Got it loose but the bracket for all the plumbing won't let me pull it out.
Checked the plug wire for firing order. Dizzy goes counter clockwise on an 81 SC, correct? All the spark plug wires had voltage induced according to the timing light.

Took it to a local wrench. He's working on it. No love.

Basic test criteria.........

You have to establish the following criteria:
a). Fuel delivery during cranking.
b). Ignition sparks during cranking.
c). Decent compression during cranking.
d). No significant vacuum leak.

Your engine should start and run. Might not be very smooth idle but I have not failed to start a CIS engine so far having the above criteria. One thing I noticed you did not test was the 12-pin connector from ECU to engine. Now, that you have given up working on the car, let's hope it won't cost you an arm and leg to get it running. Keep us posted.

Tony, I did check the ECU. I posted my results here somewhere. My mechanic said he suspects the fuel distributor and he is sending it out for rebuild. $$. I'll let you know what happens. Prolly not till next week.

Car still in the shop. Waiting for the fuel distributor to come back from rebuild.

I wouldn't have approved servicing the fuel distributor without conclusive tests indicating it was necessary.

This sounds like the FD is working just fine.

I would start at the beginning and work through the process entirely again with more attention at each step. If you're confirming everything is good then either you're making an error or there's something else not yet covered which seems less and less likely.

1) Confirm physical timing/correct camshafts in each bank. Post pics of the timing marks at TDC for second opinion here on the forum.

2) Post pictures of distributor alignment at #1 TDC.

3) Confirm plug wires/distributor cap are correctly aligned from #1 TDC. The rotor position at #1 TDC should be under your #1 plug wire and then the wires organized from that cylinder plug wire.

You have fire, you have fuel - it's going to be your timing unless you left a rag in each intake port. I'll bet money on it.

Hello all, I finally got my car back. What an experience. After FD back, needed valve adjust. Shop cleaned fuel tank, but not good enough. Debris clogged in tank strainer. Pull tank and flush again. Then vacuum leak... Anyway, it appears it was nothing I did on the rebuild, thankfully. Vacuum leak from reassembly after FD installation? So I'm driving it. Thank you for all the help these last two years. Trans and engine rebuild along with numerous other projects I couldn't have done on my own.
