Gasket dressing?

This may be obvious, but I haven't been able to find the correct answer:
What is the best method for installing the paper gaskets for the timing chain covers, oil breather, etc?

Clean surface, apply oil to gaskets, install and torque?
or
Apply a sealant (Hylomar) on both sides of paper gasket, let dry, install and torque?

The paper gasket material is already impregnated but I like to put a thin layer of 574 on the gaskets just to know I tried to stop a potential leak.
