Whining

Real whining...
Have we had a good ***** fest about installing JE circlips lately? If not I'd like to whine about the three places I am currently bleeding from.
At least they're all home now...

I made a tool that worked great a piece of cheap mop handle cut on a slant on one end and I think I used a 13mm socket as a pusher ,load the clip ,push it home worked like a charm

Very nice. I have one of those for the water-cooled stuff but not for our air-cooled builds. There's some kind of sick satisfaction once you get all six in...

One of the truly great things about using Supertec head studs is the ability to install the studs after installing the cylinders.
This gives the builder unprecedented access to the wrist pin clips for easy, accurate installation.
No fighting with rings compressors around studs (pistons installed on the bench), reduce risk of a (Jesus) clip jumping into the engine and reduced time spent struggling altogether.

Old dog new tricks? there really are no "new tricks" just experience.

Good point Henry. You probably saw that I had the bottom two Supertec studs out. Maybe on the next one I'll be so bold as to do it with no studs like in your pic.

Studs out

I like to keep the bottom row out so my hands have room to use the Stompski circlip injector and I can use cylinder locks on the top studs.

Once the cylinder is in place you can install one or more studs and then use your cylinder locks but this method won't work with conventional studs. It only works with Supertec type head studs.
Most others require a stud height measurement.

Try it. You'll be amazed at just how easy and precise piston/cylinder installation becomes.

This method also combats the struggle that you may encounter from "porcupine studs". A phenomenon where the case inserts are installed poorly leaving the head studs pointing in every direction.
