2.2 Magnesium oil pump wear - opinions
Looking for opinions on how much wear is too much on this magnesium oil pump.
..I know, I know, replace it with an aluminum SC pump.. It would still be good to know what amount of wear is considered acceptable. The wear areas are quite mild and there is a small ridge where the arrow points, which is the split between the 2 gears. The felt pen mark is where the scuffing begins. There is minimal axial play. Both sides of the housing look similar (photo below) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Are those pump gears/gerotors clean of oil? Because by the looks of the pictures, it looks like that pump has ingested some debris at some point.
Here's what a 964 pump (magnesium) looks like when it ingests bearing debris Engine Bearing Failure- Disassemble Heads Too? I would like to see a pump body have a virtually no amount of contact evidence like this one- note how prominent the machining marks are SC Oil Pump
