While the fan and housing is out
Most of a year ago I picked up a long block 3.0 and had the heads done. Put them back together as a sub assembly and set them on a shelf.
By late September/ early October I found myself in a wheel chair with a bad back. Operation in January, by April I can get out of the house with just a cane. Waiting on the powder coating for fan and housing I started projecting. Will be an 1982 long block with bearings, chains, resealed, rings, ramps., etc. I'm so glad to be back on the projects. Bruce, you have a cross drilled crank but no bearing enhancement?

If not already completed, it's a good idea to open the oil feed hole from the main oil galley. ![]() That said: if it's just a low rpm street motor, I'm not sure the mod is needed so you might opt to just leave it......

Just building back stock but I did spend the money so I think I'll open it back up and practice grooving some old bearings until I'm happy with the product.
I think I'll pass on drilling the case, but I like the idea. Bruce |

I had the piston and cylinders on, pulled them yesterday so I'm close to breaking it open and fixing the bearing for oil to the crank.
This will be complete as a long block, could be a great candidate for 2.7 replacement if I were to install the clockwise distributor drive while I have it opened. 2.7 distributor, 3prong CD, and a set of Webers with 9.3 compression, excellent street motor. Bruce |

Relief cut
Got the engine opened today and cut the relief for the oil to the center of the crank that I overlooked while assembling

What's the purpose of cutting a groove in your center bearing? More lube?

The groove is designed to allow the oil to flow continuously as the crank rotates. We groove the bearing using a simple fixture we designed for the lathe. ![]()
