IMO, the 3.0 is one of the best engines for rebuilding. Yes, there's no replacement for displacement, but the tough aluminum case, large journals, big ports (on some heads), and wide range of parts can provide a high performance engine with longevity at a reasonable price (in Porsche world of course). I love these build threads! Go for it, Luke, and keep posting updates.

I spoke with the shop that did the cylinders earlier today. I was told it's ok to run it the way it is. I found a magnifying glass and took a closer look at the pit. After looking at it again it's not as bad as I thought it was. The nikasil is pitted but not all the way through. I'm going to just run it then. I should be able to check the deck height and order up some base gaskets. I also got some used 3.0 big port heads in. After checking the valve guides I found too much slop in them so they'll need to go out for replacement.
