engine lift/hoist eyelet

I bought a rather nice engine lift bar (webbing on one side to grab the mounting bar, and on the other side a shackle to hook up to a lifting eye) to get the motor from the ground to the stand and back. Now, my motor doesn't have a lifting eyelet or whatever they are called. The guy, who used this on several 911 race engines, said it's a Porsche part, but I haven't been able to track it down. It apparently mounts towards the back near the flywheel.

If it's relevant, this is for a '76 2.7L motor, CIS, out of a Targa.
Thanks for any help!

great! one more question - how exactly does it attach? i'm just wondering if i need to buy any additional fasteners or if it uses bolts that are already on the engine.

thanks!

Here is a picture of the factory location for the lifting eye on my engine (in front of the crankcase breather cover in the picture):

Thanks,
Mark

Thanks!

Bumping an old thread.. Can anybody out there tell me exactly how this eyelet goes back on the stud on the case? I took some pics when I took it apart but they are all out of focus and I want to get it right. Crush washer next to the case, then the eyelet, then a steel washer, then a nut? If anyone knows "the right way" I would be grateful.

you could also just use a couple guys to help you get the engine onto the stand. one to work the floor jack, two to stabilize the engine and keep it steady while raising/lowering, one to slide the stand onto the yoke once raised up. piece of cake!!

Hello There:

Just put one of these on my 3.0L engine I am building, so here is what I did.

Eyelet of bracket next to the case, and then the crush washer and nut.

I am not an expert but that is how it came off of the case, so that is how I put it back on.

Hope this helps.

So, my 964 engine is on the engine stand with the shroud and intake off, so I thought I'd check my lifting eye and let you know how it was assembled. My engine has never been apart, so what I found was the way it was originally assembled. And, what I found was.....nothing! No washers at all either between the lifting eye and the case, or between the nut and the lifting eye. This engine uses a single flat washer under thread-interference type nuts on the rest of the perimeter studs, but no washer at all on the lifting eye.

Thank you both for your observations! Going to give it a try with TibetanT's arrangement since my case is a 3.0. Now onto some more important details.. Like does anyone know what kind of washer to use, if any, on the fine threaded M10 stud that is inside the case accessible by the left side chain box area? Another blurry picture on my digital camera and hence another head-scratcher!

The M10 stud uses a spring washer, with part number N0122423, on the 3.0L engine. Pelican Parts does sell these, and Porsche used them in many other places within their cars. Just so you know.

Hope this helps.
