Personally I never considered boring out my stock vents as they don't fit in a lathe well its just not that easy. |
I don't think it's automatic that mag cases need extensive machine work just because you split it for rebuild. Unless it has been exposed to significant heat (2.7 with reactors or racing) I wouldn't just assume it's automatically going to need a line bore Etc. Also, if you aren't building a high performance motor, the piston squirters and a lot of the race mods aren't necessary either. These 2.2 motors were pretty durable just the way they came out of the factory. It's when they stroked them to 2.4 and especially 2.7 when the cases started to be over stressed. I will give in to the oil bypass mod and case savers but those are pretty inexpensive.

True. Piston squirters are inexpensive as well. I suppose that alone would justify going ahead and getting it done. I guess my point was that more often than not, a 2.2 will come apart without warping. To me they get lumped in with the 2.7 motors that were exposed to much more heat.

Case/Piston squirters were added in the '71 model year. If you change cams don't forget about changing or altering your distibutor to match. You should have a Marelli for that "T" Try and find the proper Bosch 008 for the "T" cams or the 006 for the "E" cams and the 007 for the"S" cams.

Great input guys. Any idea where I can get the right distributor for "e" or "s" cams?

Post a wtb here. You should find one between $3-$400.

You can have your Marelli rebuilt and recurred to match your other modifications. Contact Kurt at Parts Klassic
