Dressed up with 74/75 style CIS
Fan is pre 77
Numbers cast on the side of the case should be 901 xxxx xxx 07, represents late 2.4 and all 2.7
72 and later distributor

Possibly the original 2.7 rebuilt on a new case. Only a tear-down will tell for sure after all these years.

The picture you posted is definitely a 911 engine bay.

Do you mean that the engine itself may have come from a 914/6?

You would have to check at the back of the engine for the 914/6 engine #'s if present. However, what we see is not consistent with a 914/6 engine. Even if the case was 914/6, the induction certainly is not. Therefore, whatever was used in the rebuild is not possible to know through photos.

The case casting numbers would narrow it down for you. Wouldn't tell you actual displacement as built but would tell you how it started. Should be a 7R if it is for a 74.

So most likely a 74-77 replacement case from the factory. I would assume it is whatever the seller claims.

blank case

hi guys,

many thanks. Is it usual a replacement cast does not show the 911/xx, probably 911/92 in this case engine type stamp?

I've seen them both ways over the years, both with just a type number and totally blank.

Here in Germany there are many cases without the 911/xxx , but a "AT" in front of the serial number. AT is "Austausch" which means exchange. I have no idea if the factory did it or just the workshop that did the swap. I also saw two engine with a EX in front of the number. I thought it was for "EXCHANGE" but I have no idea how this was handeld in the US back in the 70th.
