one more reason the engine yoke goeson the oil cooler side.
Hi Folks.
I thought I did all the reading I could before I started my engine top end but obviously I missed something. I borrowed a yoke from a friend, not the factory one as it did not have the cutout for the oil cooler. I thought no big deal I will put it on the other side. I wsnt splitting the case anyway so I thought it did not really matter.... well... everything was going hunky dory until I was putting the wrist pins back in. I took it apart over a year ago but did find it odd when putting the cylinders back in they had the wrist pin on the left side. Waynes book specifically stated to put the wrist pins on the right side.. I should have stopped there and looked into the future. I kept the pistons and cylinders together as they are alusil and I have no oil burning or performance issues at all so was just going to slip it all back in. I followed Waynes guidelines to the letter and put back the cylinder in order 123, when I got to three I discovered the problem. I cant put the wrist pin in the engine stand side of cylinder three because the yoke is in the way. This could have easily been avoided if I had put them in the way I took them out , 3,2,1. with leaving the wrist pin spring in the left side of the cylinder and working towards the pulley end of the engine. Not the end of the world as I have a buddy coming over to help me lift the engine on to the bench for this procedure, its still light enough that two guys can do that . All lessons learned by experience Just thought would post this to maybe help the next newb like me..
