Help with rod bearing sizes
I'm going to start a rebuild of 1990 964 3.6 engine next year and just collecting some parts now.
I'm looking to get some clevite rod bearings, but noticed they come in more than size. Standard vs 0.25mm oversize. I'm assuming I need the standard, but 1) just wanted to clarify before purchase 2) curious when the oversize is used, what scenario? Thanks in advance. |

I am not an expert by any means of the word first and foremost.
I think the only time oversized is used is if the crank has been machined down due to scoring or other damage. I would just make sure the crank is checked and repaired if needed I think most Porsche cranks are repaired and brought back to oe spec if needed |

Yep, unless machined from a prior rebuild or oiling issues causing damage to journals, it should be standard.

Be sure to measure everything. I mic the crankshaft as well as check the ID of the rod bearings as installed with a bore gauge, so I know exactly what my clearance is. If you use ARP rod bolts, you can torque them up to spec to measure with a bore gauge, and reuse the same bolts at final assembly.
