Rebuilding 1969 911S to Orig specs
I'm just beginning the process of rebuilding my 1969 911s. The crank is good. The case is about to be line bored and the cylinders will be honed to 81 mm for matched JE pistons (9.8:1). Cams were refreshed years ago by Web Cam. The MFI system was rebuilt by H&R in the eighties; now has only a few thousand miles on it. Does anyone have some interesting experiences that will help me get the most of my engine? Does anyone care to convince me to go with a different configuration, i.e. 2.2L. I appreciate all recommendations.

Sounds like a gem, so treat her well! The early S motors make very nice power for the displacement, and the value of an original S is to be considered too.
You mention line boring the case. Make sure you consider your options here. Sometimes the mag cases just need a line hone back to standard, not a true bore (which will require $$ special bearings). Apparently the mag cases also warp, and to properly fix that you need to have the case halves surface planed in conjunction to line boring. Not many shops do this. Some may not even realize it needs to be done. You may be best served sending the case to a shop that specializes in these services like Ollies or Competition Engineering. While you're at it, consider doing things like the oil bypass update and doing case savers for the head studs. There's one through case stud that pulls sometimes too (there's another thread right now on this in fact). Another thing worth checking is that one of the bearing journals on the layshaft just sits directly in the mag case in the '69 cases. Probably worth checking the bore dimension on that, and if needed the case can be modified to accept a bearing like the later cases. I'm jealous of your car, enjoy!
