M&k dual in and dual out with potential headers

I have 1970 built to rs with a 3.2l Carrera with 40k on engine. I want to add a dual in and dual out M&K muffler, clean used if possible but interested in adding headers as well. It has a cat bypass but do you think headers with upgraded muffler would be too loud? Looking for more speed but will headers be overkill with sound and not worth extra HP?

keep in mind that SSI headers are a bit small for a 3.2 and won't provide too much HP gain over what you currently have. Also, keep in mind that muffler changes alone have more of a psychological than measurable effect on speed/HP

-- Brian/Rarly8 makes larger diameter headers that may be a better "fit" for a worked on 3.2. Concensus seems to be that, unless you've modified your 3.2 (freer flowing intake, more agressive cams/etc., you're not going to do much better than the stock exhaust with a cat bypass . Also, be sure to read up on droning issues with dual out mufflers -- it's not the loudness as much as the noise "character" at the rev ranges many primarily drive in.

I'm in the process of doing 3.6 swap into my 74 with mk 2+2 and some William Knight 1 3/4 headers, keep you posted. Sound is all subjective as Panzer says he loves it but his neighbors might not I anticipate same issues on my end.
