88 3.2 rebuild 964 cam reground
I have the stock cam reground to 964 spec. everything stock( pistons, valves & etc) Do I need to change the copper seal to .50 mm cylinder to engine case..:):):)
|
No, only if you cut the heads and/or the case cylinder decks. STD ( standard ) 0.25MM gasket will be just fine. But just for insurance, measure the piston to cylinder deck height.
964 profile cams have no effect on deck height. |
Thanks Bro!

One Caveat, you may need to ignore the base idle settings all together and adjust the idle manually to insure it does not sub-dip with those new aggressive cams. Do this after she is warmed up.
Here is my thread on my 964 Cam install: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/918126-964-cams-swap-journey.html Timing is the same, ideal 1.25MM ( 1.1-1.4 ) Break a Leg Brother :D and enjoy, you will be pretty stoked with those |
My 930 heads were machined down .017" and I used new .25mm base gaskets with blue hylomar non hardening sealant smeared on them and 964 cams timed at 1.26mm. There are no problems with valve to piston clearance and it runs great.
Has anyone ever installed the cylinders with no base gaskets and just hondabond or yamabond (both are rebranded threebond) for a free compression bump? I guess there would be a good chance of oil leakage there if you did that. |
Interesting, if case cylinders decks are confirmed straight, it should not leak. Ollie's Machine Shop said some of their client opt not to re-deck the case at cylinder and even with new gaskets and seal additive, it leaked. I opted to re-deck, it was off by 3 thou

I had my cams ground to 964 using CamGrinder. I didn't do anything - no issues other than seems like a bit more power on the high end.
