What dizzy for my build?
I am building a 2.4 with 2.2 s pistons, Solex cams, and webers. I currently have a 0 231 159 006 Dizzy that looks to be for a 2.2 E.. I am looking for some feedback as to if this would be an acceptable Distributor for my needs or if it needs to be recurved?
Thanks |
I do not know if this is available from our host:

E dizzy curve should be fine. That's a lot of compression for single plug, though.

I'd grab one out of a 2.4l motor instead of a 2.2l. The 2.4 has a slower advance rate which would be good for higher compression and single plug. The T, E and S have different distributor part numbers but the curves are the same; the only difference is the rev limit set point on the rotor (which is replaceable and interchangeable). Save yourself some money and buy one for a 'T'.
I built a similar motor (2.4, E cams, 2.2S pistons, single plug) and am using the 2.4l advance curve with good results. (butt dyno results only) |
Thanks everyone I think I will stick with the E dizzy I currently own. Henry@supertec says it will be perfect.

One quick thought.
If the case is 72 or later the distributor mounting hole is 30mm vs the 27mm of the 2.2 distributor. |

Oops you are right the distributor is on its way to you with some repaired 226 fan rings |

I assume your concern (high compression) is based on the assumption that the 2.2S pistons on a 70.4 crank will produce a compression ratio in excess of 10:1. That assumption has been floating around the Porsche community for decades. The truth is, 2.2 S pistons don't produce anything like their advertised compression ratio (9.8:1). In fact, when properly measured the static compression on all early factory pistons is considerably lower than the published number. 2.2S 9.8:1 crazy! Actually measure at closer to 8.5:1 |
