How to tell what pistons I have ?

I think there are three differen't pistons for the 3 liter cars. How can I tell which one is in my car? A friend of mine who was rebuilding his 1978sc had differen't pistons then I had so I just wanted to know what the differences are. This car has changed hands a few times and may have the later pistons in it so I would like to know what would allow me too tell the difference.

It can be very difficult. It's easier to identify the cylinders and then figure out which pistons you have. There's Alusil and Nikasil (can't mix and match), and then there's the high compression / low compression ones...
