Kolbenschmidt Bearings
In my hunt for std/std main bearings for my 71 build I came across some NOS Kolbenschmidt bearings. After reading a bunch of mixed reviews on glyco I have decided to go NOS. Does anyone have any information on the quality of these bearings? The set I found is more than double the cost of glyco but if quality is vastly superior I'll bite and purchase them. Thanks for any/all input.
Seb

My understanding was the Glyco issue was in a small batch that has been isolated already?
I used them (Glyco) without issue. Pulled motor down and they looked perfect. I'm running pretty decent power being turbocharged.

Seb,
Do an advanced search on this forum. There some posts by Pelican "bpu699" who had trouble with new Glyco bearings being thinner than the old bearings he took out of the engine. He had his new bearings coated in an effort to increase their thickness. I am not sure what he ended up doing, possibly reusing his old main bearings because they looked OK. If you need some help with assembly, PM me.

We used to sell the KS bearings when I was at Carquip. We were doing 3-5 engines a month and many of them got them. Never saw any comebacks and I was there 1/2 dozen years.

Bought new Porsche rod bearings... Coated the originals but didn't want to risk it... Yep, the glyco ones were thinner... At least the one I got... Find my prior thread... Hope to have the case back together this weekend, it's finally above freezing inwisconsin... |
