78-83 Aluminum air Box

My shop completed the air-box replacement with a built in pop-off valve. This valve is adjustable up to 33 PSI in case your engine is boosted. It has location for MAP sensor connection, cold start, Air Temp sensors. It is available standalone for use with an EFI kit, or with a housing for the mechanical CIS. (They bolt together). More pictures will be posted soon. It is 3/16 aluminum tig welded in a jig, and all the ports are press fit into the body.

Interesting. Questions abound:

Are you selling those? What does the CIS add-on look like? What does that thing weigh?

I will weigh it tomorrow. It may a bit more than the stock airbox, but it will be the last one you ever buy. I will also post pictures of the CIS portion. It is thinner aluminum. I made this for my supercharged SC but since we went thru all the trouble to build jigs, we made detail blueprints so we can make 10 or so and weld them if anyone needs one. this is not a backyard shop operation. This shop makes very complex cnc machines for the Aerospace Market. We are also making crankshaft pulleys, alternator pulleys, belt tensioners, brackets, ignition sensor brackets, fuel rails, clamps to hold injectors in place (for boosted CIS applications. Somewhere around 1000.00 for the airbox and a bit more for the CIS portion.

78-83 CIS airbox

The boxes are done, I still haven't weighed it yet. It comes in two pieces. The replacement for the lower portion of the airbox (if not using CIS) and the replacement for the upper portion (for use with factory CIS). This was made for boosted applications but will work either way. It can have the Pop-off-valve set at a large rande of pressures, or it can be assembled without. It uses the fuel distributor from a stock airbox for the cold start valve. It is tig welded, vacuum tested, pressure tested and anodized. They are made from precision details and assembled on a jig. O-ring seales used thru-out.

Airbox, for CIS or EFI 78-83

The box is now Installed on running on a CIS engine. All the factory connections to a plastic airbox bolt right up. This box can be an indestructible box for a CIS engine, EFI or a boosted engine. The lower portion is all you need if you are using EFI. It has a pressure relief valve with pressure opening adjustable from 5-35 PSI. the factory airfilter fits right on this box. Unbolt the cold start, air vale, vacuum lines and all of those pieces bolt to this box

will this air box fit the earlier cis which started in 1973...? I presume not, thus, what if any modifications can be made to this box to fit earlier cars...? thx for sharing... sure looks like a nice air box you made...

I/m sure the box can be modded to fit earlier CIS. I don't have a pre 78 engine to check it on and see what needs to be done.

Having the shop estimate hours on a run of 10. Detail pieces only, they will be built to suit.

Looks way too heavy... and blingy.
For a boosted application, yes, otherwise the factory part will function perfectly as long as the CIS is maintained.
