I am machining my case for case savers but am wondering at what depth I should install them. Should I have it so the head stud is bottomed in the case-saver? or machine the case-saver in a bit more so that the had stud is not bottomed? Also I am wondering if the 135mm measurement is supposed to be taken from the cylinder base rather than the stud cutaway as shown in waynes book? I talked to some people and they said to put the studs in just so the threads are recessed, that would be about 135mm from the base of the cylinder!
Thanks...Tracy

The stud should not bottom out. I use a collet type stud installer (Baum Tools, 28K-10 "STUD PULLER-SQUEEZE TYPE-10mm") and a little whiteout pen to mark the stud where it should be even with the hole (135mm). This works out to about 133mm from the spigot face. If I can turn the studs in with my fingers I set my scale (ruler) to 133mm and measure as I go.
