If so, go on ebay and get yourself an impact wrench. About $110 refurbed ($300 new)...

You will find a million uses for it...

Have you gotten to the exhaust nuts yet?

Bo

well... perhaps my impact wrench is weak. I went through the entire battery charge on all the nuts and not one of them budged.
I'll keep spraying with PB Blaster and let it soak overnight.

very interesting... glad you noticed.

looks like 993 dilivars,
I just use a breaker bar on the 10 mm because some times my snap on impact doesn’t do it.

thanks.. I'll keep that in mind when it comes time to remove the studs.

piston marks

Pistons do not look too bad.Good to look at the rod bearings as they can get a flat spot from contact. An egg carton works great to lay out the rocker arms in order 1-6 from left to right.Keep digging.Fred

993, the point being, why would you remove them?
When they were purchased there was a loctite on the threads that activated from the heat of the threading install. You ll need a torch to remove them and exact replacements are near $50 each

Why would I keep them? I have no idea about what was installed, when it was installed, who installed them. Plus... I wouldn't want to ship my case halves all the way across the US and shipped back again and trust that nothing happens to the studs during shipment, handling, etc...

I also planning on replacing all fasteners with Raceware (head studs, rod bolts, etc...)

Trakrat 11-09-2017 12:21 PM

took out the right side camshaft.
This camshaft was VERY DIFFICULT to pull out. the 3rd bearing seemed to get stuck... after about 15-20 minutes of playing with it, I finally was able to pull it free.

Anyways... posted some pics that made me curious about what some of you experts may be able tell me about it.

What are the numbers? What does it tell you? Also... what's your opinion of the bearing surfaces?

My search suggested super tech is preferred for heads, arp for rods. Race ware had some negative comments...

If you have 993 head studs, those are highly rated. Leaving them saves you $1000 as that's about what they cost. I believe they are considered top of the line, but will let experts chime in...

Why are you shipping your case cross country? What's wrong with it?

Unless there is a known issue with your case, why do anything but clean it? Those 930 cases are usually bullet proof.

I'm not sure what your budget is...but it must be pretty impressive... Some of the parts prices, before upgrades, are eye watering

:)

well.. my budget is not that impressive... trying to save costs as much as I can.

The other problem is that I don't have any local shops in my area... at least none that seem to know what they're doing to even clean my case and stuff.

Besides that... all my machine shop work is going to be done by Ollies, so figured I might as well send them everything. :D

From what I’ve read, you’ll get it all back someday....

Just don't tell your wife.

Heck, you can boat tail with your drimmel.

Is that the before or after pic?

I need to get all my oil lines internally cleaned too, as I have some metallic 'dust' showing up in my oil.

hmmm.... what do you mean?

Trackrash 11-10-2017 12:59 PM

Here is a better shot after. I should mention that I cleaned most of the gunk off before I put it in the dish washer. Later I pulled out the large end plug on the gallery to make sure there was not gunk in there. I also was not trying to polish my case. Just make it look clean.
