I'm looking to replace the CIS in my 81 SC ROW with no o2 sensor. This is a tired system. I have been looking at the Electromotive TEC II Carrera Conversion Kit from Pelicanparts, but am not sure if it's the complete kit. Clewett has it with the Tec-3 that sounds like the same kit with a tec-3 instead.
What else is required to complete the install? What kind of advantages do these systems have? |

I dont think the Tec 2 is available anymore, it was replaced by the tec 3 about a year ago. Perhaps Pelican hasnt updated that part of the catalog.
The EFI is light years ahead of CIS, however a in shape CIS system should be fine for street driving. If you are planning on doing a DIY install of the Tec3 be prepared for some hair pulling and frustration. The wiring and physical installation is easy enough. Its when you have to set up and tune the engine that it bites the big one. the Tec doesnt have the easiest inteface to use to get the ECU programmed the way you want it. If you have someone else tune the car be prepared to spend at the least $1000 for dyno tuning and mapping. You will also need to purchase injectors, and fabricate fuel rails, or you could. Or you could purchase a 3.2 manifold (going rate about $550) and use that to replace the CIS manifold. Figure betwwen $3000 to over $5000 to convert to EFI, depending on how much of the work you do yourself.

Thanks for the info.
I was guessing that there was more involved. The write-ups don't say much about what's included. Seems the more fague the parts list, the more hidden cost are involved. I had read some other posts about the tuning issues, so I was prepared to shell out for that. |

I was seriously considering this route over the long-term, but lately I have realized that upgrading to a 3.2 or 3.6 engine could be a cheaper way to get EFI and more horsepower and other benefits. The difference between what you could get for your 3.0 and a good 3.2 or 3.6 should be close if not less than the $5,000 you could spend on EFI alone.

I have a complete 3.6 for $6000 I have found it cheaper to put a 3.6 in to get the power you want. It is much less $$$ than preformance mods.

I personally would go with a different EFI setup if that is the route you choose. Hey TimT you are close to my EFI tuner, Job Spetter Jr of Turbo People in Hastings. They are the best in the business if you ever need anything on that level.
